Testimonials
Sarah, 10 years old
“I practiced the value of honesty today during golf. Each person got two turns putting at each hole and when I was on my second turn, someone asked me how many turns I had taken. I really wanted another turn, but truthfully, I told him that I was on my second turn.”
Miguel Hernandez and Teresa Ruiz-Hernandez
“All one has to do to appreciate what NCGA Foundation has offered to our daughter is to imagine what her life would be without it. Without it thinking that golf isn’t for everybody because of economics, with it seeing what wonderful and generous people play and love this great game. Thank you NCGA Foundation for changing her life.”
CJ Garrett, age 11, sixth grader at Fitch Middle School
“I am here to discuss how Youth on Course has changed my life! Youth on Course has taught me to be a calm and patient person. The program has taught me to stay focused on the golf course and off the golf course. It has also taught me to always try my best and never give up. Thank you for supporting Youth on Course!”
Jocelyn, age 14, eighth grader at Our Lady of Grace Nativity School
“I really like the clinics and learning how to actually play golf. This is my first time golfing. It’s not like Wii Golf. It’s a lot different. My favorite part is the driving range. I enjoy getting to spend time with my classmates. We don’t see each other during the summer, so it’s fun to get to talk to friends.”
Oscar, age 14, eighth grader at Sacred Heart Nativity School.
“It’s very relaxing. I come tired with a lot of thoughts on my mind that bother me. I focus on my arms and legs and swing and forget about everything. I like the scenery. It’s nice and quite here. No distractions. We don’t act on our first thoughts. We stop and think before we act.”
Marc Braga, PGA Head Pro at San Jose CC and YOC Instructor
“It gives me a sense of giving back to the community. We are able to expose these kids to a private club, which otherwise they may not have such an opportunity. I feel so much better on these days than my normal days at work.”
“I’m really impressed on how these kids behave and the respect they show me. I think they really get it. They are aware of the opportunities they’ve been presented. They’re great kids. You can already start to see the change in them.”
Don Allio, Assistant Golf Pro at San Jose CC
“What I enjoy most is seeing the enjoyment that the younger golfers get from learning a new game. To see them make contact with the ball and hear that click for the first time is amazing. To build relationships with the kids is the greatest part for me and to see them get hooked on the game.”
“The skills they learn on the golf course, including manners, are invaluable. Perhaps these skills will help them with a future interview. This can be beneficial to them in so many different ways.”
April McMillan, Fitch Middle School
“My experience at the state capital was definitely life changing. I learned more there than I would on a regular school day. I saw and experienced things kids my age can’t and don’t do. That day I was able to stand in front of a senate meeting and see how everything works on a day-to-day basis. I was able to meet the state senator from Monterey and many other senators. I was also able to meet the Acting Lieutenant Governor and talk to her. She gave me a few encouraging words.”
“This was one of those experiences I will never forget. I am blessed that I was able to do what I did and see what I saw. Thank you NCGA Foundation for everything you have done and still do for the friendship Baptist church kids.”
