The NCGA Foundation held its eighth annual Pro-Am on Friday, August 13 at Spyglass Hill in Pebble Beach. Proceeds from the Club Car sponsored event will help youth in Northern California develop life skills and values though the Foundation’s Youth on Course program.

Unlike other youth golf programs, Youth on Course focuses on an entire continuum of services that allows participants to play affordably while building self-esteem through clinics, mentoring, internships and scholarships. The Foundation also partners with local organizations to identify youth in underserved communities that rarely have the ability to experience outside educational and recreational opportunities.

Four-man teams were paired with a local professional in a modified shamble format in which each team selected the best drive of all five members. Each individual then played his or her own ball from there through the completion of the hole.

The participants were introduced to Sebastian Crampton, one of the Foundation’s Youth on Course members who has taken on a mentor role for other deserving youth. The 14-year-old hit a tee shot for every group on the par-3 twelfth and teams had the option of playing Crampton’s ball. Crampton is one of the state’s top junior golfers.

The Dole Food Co. Inc. team captured the Pro-Am gross title with an 8-under-par 64, with the aid of professional Rodney Wilson of Harding Park. Team members included Bruce Hungate, Brian Huh, Jeff Fulton and Rob Hoffman. Kaiser Permanente took second after carding a 65.

The Monument Administrators team took home the net title, carding a 19-under-par 53. Team members were David Bramwell, Pat Hoffman, Norm Hainlen, Jim Smallwood and professional Jason Owen. InterWest Insurance Services finished second, one stroke back.

Charlie Gibson of Morgan Creek fired a one-under 71 to win the professional division. Marc Braga and Joe Moulton tied for second with a 72.

The event would not have been possible without the support of many generous donors:
