Scholarship Opportunities
The NCGA Foundation has scholarship opportunities available to Northern California youth, the Paul Porter Memorial Scholarship, Diane and Paul Morton Scholarship, Geraldine Elizabeth House Scholarship, Goldman Family Scholarship, and the Lyn Nelson Scholarship. Scholarships are the final part of the NCGA Foundation’s continuum that includes clinics, life skills training, affordable course access and internships.
The deadline for all scholarships is May 4th at 11:59 pm PST. With the exception of the Paul Porter Memorial Scholarship, opportunities are only available to Youth on Course members. Information on how to become a member is available here.
Paul Porter Memorial Scholarship
The Paul Porter Memorial Scholarship is open to Monterey County high school seniors. The annual scholarship provides $5,000 in financial assistance to a deserving youth who will attend a four-year college or university. The scholarship announcement is available here.
Diane and Paul Morton Scholarship
The Diane and Paul Morton Youth on Course Scholarship is a four-year award, which provides university-bound students with financial support for higher education. The scholar will receive $1,250 per year for a total of four years. The recently created scholarship was named in 2011 for NCGA Foundation Past President and Youth on Course founder Paul Morton. Under his leadership, Youth on Course grew to a nationally recognized program investing millions of dollars in programs for at-risk youth and providing thousands of youth affordable access to golf. Many of those youth are eligible for clinics, internships and scholarships all of which are now under the Youth on Course umbrella.
Paul continues to serve on the board of directors and the scholarship will be funded in perpetuity. Paul is a graduate of Cal State University Chico while Diane earned her degree from Cal State University Sacramento. Preference will be given to candidates attending a CSU campus.
Geraldine Elizabeth House Scholarship
The Geraldine Elizabeth House Youth on Course Scholarship is a four-year award, which provides university-bound students with financial support for higher education. The scholar will receive $1,000 per year for a total of four years. The recently created scholarship was made possible by a generous gift from Libby and Mark House via the El Dorado Community Foundation in the name of Mark’s mother who passed away in her mid twenties. Geraldine Elizabeth House was the daughter of Rolland and Adele Watt of Redding, California and is survived by her sister Kathleen Peek of Camino, California. Mr. House is a past president of the NCGA and past Secretary of the NCGA Foundation and played an important role in developing the Youth on Course program. The House family feels strongly about the diverse benefits provided to youth via the NCGA Foundation’s flagship Youth on Course program. Mark and Libby have three children, Marcus, Julianna, and Max that have been involved with the Youth on Course program.
Goldman Family Scholarship
The Goldman Family Youth on Course Scholarship is a four-year award, which provides university-bound students with financial support for higher education. The scholar will receive $1,000 per year for a total of four years. The recently created scholarship was made possible by a generous gift from the Lisa & Douglas Goldman Fund. Dr. Goldman currently serves on the Honorary Board of Directors of the NCGA Foundation and has been a longtime supporter of Youth on Course. The Goldman family is passionate about providing educational opportunities for at-risk youth in Northern California. Dr. Douglas Goldman is the son Richard and Rhoda Goldman, founders of the Goldman Environmental Prize. He and his sons Jason and Matthew attended UC Berkeley while his wife Lisa and daughter Jennifer attended the University of Southern California.
