NCGA Foundation Hosts Free Youth Clinic with Roger Maltbie
SAN
JOSE - The Northern California Golf Association Foundation hosted a free youth
clinic on January 14 at Rancho del Pueblo Golf Course in San Jose with
California Golf Hall of Famer Roger Maltbie.
"The NCGA Foundation was thrilled to work with former PGA Tour player Roger Maltbie to provide an incredible experience for so many deserving kids," said NCGA Foundation Executive Director Adam Heieck. "We will continue to work in local communities to provide opportunities for kids to apply life skills and core values through golf."
Led
by Maltbie, who grew up in San Jose and is now an NBC golf commentator, 22
junior golfers aged 9-12 from The First Tee of San Jose enjoyed a two-hour
clinic.
Instructors taught golf swing fundamentals such as grip and posture as kids
rotated among the driving range and putting green stations. On the green,
participants had to set individual goals and a six-hole putting course was
set-up, allowing the youth of varying skill levels to engage in friendly
competition against each other and their established goals.
Maltbie emphasized the importance of life skills such as having respect for
others during the session. Participants enjoyed the question and answer session
with Maltbie which allowed the students to find out about their favorite PGA
Tour players.
The NCGA Foundation sponsored clinic and provided the young golfers half a dozen
new golf balls and a Youth on Course T-shirt at the end of the day. The
charitable arm of the NCGA plans to build on this success and conduct monthly
free clinics in 2009.
