Clinics

In 2010 instruction became a focus as the Foundation began sponsoring YOC clinics for deserving youth by partnering with local organizations. These 20-week on-site clinics offer professional golf instruction through age and skill appropriate golf activities. The clinics are the next forward step for YOC, which was initially created to connect kids from their first experience in golf to actually playing the game on a regular basis. The number of sponsored clinics across Northern California has now grown to seven, further widening the door of opportunity for at-risk youth in underserved communities.

New to the Clinic program in 2011 is a literacy component which was developed in partnership with the George Archer Memorial Foundation for Literacy. This new component will provide activities and opportunities for youth to improve their reading and writing with adult mentors from local university golf teams and volunteers. This component will initially be introduced at the San Mateo clinic and will be expanded to all Youth on Course clinic sites by the end of the year.

Youth on Course clinics are only the first step in a continuum of services created by the NCGA Foundation. The program is based on an evolving curriculum that establishes stepping stones for achievement through golf skills, life skills, nutritional education, and physical fitness education. One way to contribute to the YOC program is to volunteer at an on-site clinic close to you. CLINIC QUOTES

“Golf is like math, you have to keep count of your strokes. My mind has to be calm when I play golf just like how I have to be when I do math.”
    –Jamie, San Francisco Clinic
